Huiñay Huayna, meaning ‘forever young’ in Quechua, is perhaps the fascinating archaeological complex along the Inca Trail.
Located at an altitude of 2,700 metres, with beautifully designed buildings, ten ceremonial fountains, curvaceous hanging terraces and incredible geometrical stairway the site is of both urban and agricultural origin.
Huiñay Huayna is usually reached on the third day of the Inca Trail, from KM 104 of the Machu Picchu railway line (2-4 hours) or from the Machu Picchu Sanctuary itself (3-4 hours return).
