A short walk from Puerto Villamil brings you to the port town’s port, where there are a couple of options. The natural pool of Concha de Perla offers good snorkelling, although a trip further out to Turtle Cove at Roca Unión or Finados offer incredible snorkelling opportunities amongst marine turtles, sea lions, white tipped sharks, eagle rays and schools of colourful fish.
A short boat trip from the port also offers the chance to visit the Las Tintoreras Trail. Here the pathway leads between aa lava, past huddles of marine iguanas towards a lagoon and a narrow channel which makes a favoured resting place for white-tipped sharks. Continuing along the shores, past Sally Lightfoot crabs and sea lions, it is also possible to see flat rippled areas of pahoehoe lava, pumice stones and white lichens that grow directly on volcanic rock.
