Panajachel is a small town on the north shore of Lake Atitlan. Within the town there are several attractions of eco-cultural interest including the Museo Lacustre Atitlan which houses a collection of rare archeological artifacts recovered from the lake's bed. San Francisco Assis is a restored 16th century Catholic church, which has a unique stone faced, stepped-up facade.
The Los Encuentros holds a small gallery which exhibits the work of indigenous artists of the lake and the most extensive tutorial medicinal plant garden in the Lake Atitlan Basin.
