Los Cayos Cochinos, which literally means ‘The Hog Islands’, are 13 small islands just a few miles off the coast from La Ceiba and declared as a marine reserve in 1994. 

Despite having excellent white-sand beaches and tropical forest, surrounded by pristine reef, surprisingly few tourists visit so the Cayos Cochinos offer the rare opportunity to see the Caribbean still mostly unspoiled by human activity.
