A small distance from Gracias, along a dirt but well-kept road, is the small town of La Campa. Set among rough mountainous terrain, it is famous principally for its ceramics. In fact, even its church is renowned for the artwork decorating the altar - this is an artisan town.
This normally sleepy village comes to life in the week leading up to February 22nd when thousands of pilgrims come to pay homage to the town’s patron saint, San Matias.
Serious hikers with a couple of days to spare can venture into the mountains with local guides or in organised groups and visit the Belen Gaucho indigenous community.
