The lighthouse on Kangaroo Island opened on July 5th, 1858, and stands on a cliff 155 metres above sea level. A small cannon nearby was used to signal ships of danger, before the days of radio. Stores used to be pulled on a double set of rails laid up a precipitous cliff and hauled by a horse capstan at Harvey's Return. Nearby a small cemetery, with 14 headstones, reminds us of the tough early days. Other attractions in the area are Scott's Cove and the Ravine des Casoars Walking Trail.
