The highest peak in the Akhdar range, in Oman and in eastern Arabia Jebel Shams or the ‘Mountain of the Sun’ provides a focal point for travellers to the region. Below it are some of the best walks anywhere, with stunning canyons and hidden villages to discover. A small campsite is located here with rooms to rent and it provides a great base from which to explore on foot, following either the way marked trails or using a local guide to discover new ones.
