Bada Bagh, the ‘Big Gardens’ are the royal cenotaphs of the past rulers of Jaisalmer. As ever in Jaisalmer the chattris are superbly carved with finely rendered images of past Maharawals & their families. Each chhatris preserve inscribed tablets recording the death of Maharawals in which the memorials are raised. The chattris are built using a similar pattern but range in size. The oldest is that of Maharawal Jait Singh who reigned between 1470 and -1506.

The beautiful spot known locally as Jait Bundh Lake after Maharawal Jait Singh was constructed in 1513 AD; attached is a garden of mangoes and other fruit trees.
