Most of Costa Rica's islands are situated in the Gulf of Nicoya, some of which are undeveloped but full of animal and bird life. The best way to explore these places is by kayak from where you can observe but not disturb the wildlife.
The islands consist of Chira Island, the second largest island of Costa Rica, Venado Island, Isla Caballo, Isla Bejuco, Isla San Lucas, Isla Gitana and Tortuga Island, the most popular of Costa Rica's islands and an excellent place for snorkelling and diving.
Guayabo, Negritos and Pajaros are biological reserves and are off limits to visitors however you can enjoy bird-watching by boat.
