Landing on a long sandy beach on the north-eastern part of the island, a trip to Gardner Bay will bring you amongst large colonies of sea lions, and while exploring the area it is not unusual to spot Galapagos hawk, American oystercatchers, Galapagos doves, the Hood mockingbird, yellow warblers, several species of Darwin's finches, as well as the colourful lava lizards and marine iguanas for which this island is famous.
Snorkelling here is a marvellous experience, with sea turtles gliding beneath the waves with the occasional white tipped shark, manta ray joining the schools of colourful fish that abound in the area.
