The highlands of Floreana Island can be reached by road from the small town of Puerto Velasco Ibarra. Usually reached by truck from town, on a clear day the hill-top trails offer glorious views of the island and it is possible to see lava tunnels and caves said to have been used by pirates in the 1600s.

The highlands of Floreana are also home to the only endemic snails found on the Galapagos Islands.
