With dramatic cliffs, unspoilt beaches and sheltered tussock grasslands, the Falkland Islands have a unique Sub-Antarctic eco-system with 70 different animal species, including the black-browed albatross, the striated caracara, southern sea lions and five species of penguins including the rock hopper. There are also over 340 species of plants growing wild.

Located in the South Atlantic, 300 miles from Cape Horn and some 1,000 miles north of Antarctica, the Falkland Islands consist of two main islands and approximately 700 smaller ones. Around 2,500 people live here – most in the capital, Port Stanley, but many others in small farms and scattered throughout the islands.

While the Falklands are not technically part of the Sub Antarctic Islands, many Antarctic cruises include a visit here in their itinerary. This wild collection of isles is an incredible place to spend some time, particularly for bird watchers.

More information about the Falkland Islands will be launched soon on www.addictedtotravel.com.
