Espumilla Beach, at the northern end of James Bay, on the west coast of Santiago island offers excellent swimming opportunities, but its real pull is the wading birds – especially flamingos, common stilts and pintail ducks.
The short trail here takes visitors through a mangrove forest, where sea turtles have been known to nest, and on to a salt water lagoon. Here it is often possible to see a good number of wading birds, as well as a variety of finches and the Vermilion Fly Catcher.
