The archaeological site of Morgantina consists of a two-kilometre long ridge, known as ‘Serra Orlando’, and a neighbouring hill called ‘Cittadella’. Inhabited from around 1000 BC up to around 50BC, the site declined and was gradually abandoned at the end of the Roman Age. Excavations have brought to light remains dating back to the Romans and the site has been the subject of archaeological investigation since the early 20th century.
