Deir el Medina was originally the village which housed the workers who built the Valley of the Kings tombs. It takes its name from a monastery once occupied by monks. The area is home to a variety of tombs of workers, artists and other artisans, some of which are well preserved, particularly those of Sennedjem and Inherka. A small temple dedicated to Hathor can also be found here.
