For those specifically interested in the day-to-day domestic life of the Maya, the nearby archaeological site of Las Sepultras, where about 40 Mayan residential compounds have been found, provides a unique insight. 

Some are still being excavated, but those that have been already show the homes that would have housed the elite. Mayan customs dictate that burials should take place next to homes, and so far 250 tombs have been found.
