The colonial architecture of Comayagua is in an increasingly better state thanks to local authorities and the Spanish Cooperation Agency who are working hard to restore Spanish-era buildings to their former glory. Restoration of the area around the plaza was the first project undertaken and Comayagua has been left with not only one of the most beautiful plazas in the country, but also the most authentic.

You will now find the city's cathedral and many churches restored to their former glory, as will you find the beautiful façades of colonial homes looking in great shape for what will be a 500th birthday for many.
