The Champs de Mars racecourse is the oldest racecourse in the southern hemisphere and the second oldest in the world. It was named after the Champ de Mars in Paris and in the past has been the meeting point for mass gatherings during political events in Mauritius’s history. During the months between May and November thousands of locals and tourists visit the races.
