Renowned around the world for its size and stunning blue interior the Blue Grotto is accessible by boat – winds allowing. The entrance is a small opening formed by a natural opening in the wall of the rock, measuring just 2 meters wide by 2 meters high; the roof of the entrance lust 1 meter above the level of the sea – you have to lie down to enter!

The interior is known as the Duomo Azzurro – the Blue Cathedral – being an average of 7 meters high rising to 14 towards the rear. The eroded cavity is approximately 60 meters long and around 25 meters wide. The blue colouring of the “Grotta Azzurra” is created by light entering via an underwater opening located immediately below the entrance to the cave. The water filters the red-light leaving only the blue ones to pass into the cave.
