A short drive north from Iwik and the main entrance of the Banc d'Arguin National Park, Cape Tafarit has a wonderful long white sand beach. With a locally-run tented camp just behind the beach, this is a fabulous spot for any travellers with their own vehicle looking for an isolated place to spend a couple of days on the wild Atlantic coast of Mauritania. Beach walking from here is a delight, there are some rocks to scramble around nearby, and of course - fishing is second to none.

We never got to do a boat trip out to see the sandbanks sadly, but we did have lunch on the beach at Cape Tafarit. The fixed campsite there would be a wonderful place to overnight for sure, with the sound of the waves crashing all night. And we saw plenty of different birds just by driving along the shore.
