Bluff is located at the bottom of the South Island, New Zealand, in the province of Southland and is the 'Gateway to Stewart Island'. At 46° south, it is also an important departure point for Antarctic Voyages.
First settled in 1823, Bluff claims to have a longer history than any other town in New Zealand, and given its location has a very colourful history - much of which can be rediscovered at the town's Maritime museum.
The walk to the lookout point of Bluff Hill is also recommended.
