Supposedly resembling a boat Phnom Sampeu – Boat Mountain – lies 15km southwest of Battambang. A long staircase winds up the hill (bear right for Wind Cave and its shrines) to Chinese and then a Buddhist pagoda. Somewhat less appealing a further climb will take you to where the Khmer Rouge used to throw prisoners to their death through a hole in the top of the mountain into a cave below.
