Jim Thompson was born in 1906 but spent much of his life travelling the world on US government business until settling in Bangkok. He established the Thai Silk Corporation and became very successful, amassing a fortune. During his time in the capital he collected a vast amount of Asian art and assembled them in the house which today bears his name, Jim Thompson’s House. Thompson mysteriously disappeared in 1967 whilst on holiday in Malaysia and his fate is still unknown.

The ‘museum’ that is his house is one of those places that visitors should at all costs endeavour to include on their sightseeing itinerary being informative and a delight to wander around surrounded as one is by the stunning art treasures collected by Thompson and the trust following their takeover of it.
