This museum was, as the name suggests, once the French Consulate and has now been turned into a museum. On old Omani house the building was originally constructed around 160 years ago as the residence for Ghaliya Bint Salim Bin-Sultan, a niece of the then ruler Sultan Said Bin–Sultan. Built around a courtyard the house is a marriage of Arab and Indian styles as was common at the time. The ceilings are supported by wooden beams with palm coverings and arched, latticed windows add to the exotic feel. Today the museum chronicles Omani/French relationships from the 18th century.
