Just 8 km outside Ouarzazate, on the road to Marrakech, is the Atlas Film Studios. Covering some 30,000 sq. metres of desert this popular attraction provides a source of income for a large number of local residents who work here. If you have kids this may well be a popular place to visit.

Several guided tours operate each day, conducted in French and English, which take in most of the important sets - many of which are now fading and decaying in the harsh desert environment. Numerous movies have been shot in this region over time including Cleopatra, Jewel on the Nile, Gladiator, the Kingdom of Heaven, Martin Scorsese's Kundum and the Sheltering Sky.
