The enormous white Cathedral is built of sillar volcanic stone and overlooks Arequipa’s main square. Built in the seventeen century, it has been damaged and rebuilt several times – first by a fire in 1868 and more recently in 2001 when an earthquake caused one of its two towers to collapse.

This marvellous cathedral rests beneath the backdrop of the El Misti volcano and is elaborately decorated both inside and out.
