Al Hota Cave is a vast cavern and lake consisting of a tunnel nearly 3km long and its many offshoots most or which remain unexplored by cavers. The cave is estimated to be 2 million years old with rocks between 65 million and 136 million years old. The age of the magnificent stalactites and stalagmites is estimated to 100,000 years as it takes around a thousand years for a stalactite to grow 1cm.

There are two entrances but only one open to the public. Inside the main chamber is huge with wonderful stalactites, stalagmites and karst columns of amazing colours as well as aquatic animals such as the famous blind fish which sense their way around the lake with feelers. The main lake within the cave is around 800m long.

The recent opening of the cave with its illumination and walkways makes the system a major tourist attraction and is definitely worth a visit.
