With over 6800 Buddah images and built in the 19th century Wat Si Saket is actually the oldest surviving temple in Vientiane and is full of character.
It dates from 1818 and was built by Chao Anou in the Bangkok style and thus survived the Siamese raid of 1828. The famous images are made of wood, stone, silver and bronze; in the center of the temple courtyard is a five-tiered ordination hall with yet more Buddha niches and this time with wonderful murals of the jatakas, the Buddha's past lives.
