World Expeditions is one of the world’s original adventure travel companies. Starting as a Himalayan trekking company in 1975, we have evolved into one of the leading authorities in the field of adventure travel.
Our product range has expanded significantly since we first offered trips to Nepal and India in the 1970’s. We now cover all continents, with trips ranging from adventure touring to introductory trekking and cycling adventures, to sea kayaking and mountaineering trips.
We have earned our reputation through the unique experiences that we provide in the field, through our environmental philosophy of minimal impact travel, and for the special quality of giving something back to the communities we visit.
We pride ourselves on the associations we have built over the years with some of the world’s leading adventurers and charitable organizations who share our philosophy towards travel.

Responsible Travel
Our porters in Nepal and India and other mountain regions always carry efficient kerosene or other liquid fuel stoves. This adds significantly to our costs but maintains our minimal impact policy, ensuring that our trips do not contribute to deforestation and associated erosion or loss of biodiversity in regions which are struggling with these serious threats.
Our local employment policy and high standards of training in first aid leadership, communication and high altitude trekking ensure that our travellers receive the best possible care on their trip. Our employment of local people wherever possible has many benefits for our travellers, our hosts, and for us:
1. There is no better person to teach you about the landscape and culture than a local person. Employing local people ensures that World Expeditions’ travellers receive credible knowledge and treatment. Local intelligence underpins our ability to operate genuine ‘off the beaten track’ experiences away from commercial travel routes.
2. Employing local people ensures a good proportion of participants’ trek fees remain with the people who are custodians of the places and cultures visited.
3. Our expert staff training team is introducing effective skills in developing nations such as top quality remote area first aid techniques.
4. English language, leadership and communications skills are fundamentals in our training process. World Expeditions provides opportunities for personal advancement, industry-leading conditions and inspiration in communities where employment conditions can be very harsh.
5. World Expeditions employs a generous number of porters on trek in order to implement our minimal impact policies. These extra porters carry kerosene fuel in and take rubbish out. World Expeditions pay porters a per kilogram cash bonus for rubbish returned at the end of the trek.
6. This policy has been implemented to combat the habit of disposing unnecessary waste into glaciers and over cliffs.

Food and Beverages
On our treks we have trained cooks providing nourishing meals that ensure the quality and hygiene of the food provided. We bring our food with us so we do not have to rely on, or deplete, local supplies. We always provide access to clean drinking water while on trek. On treks we offer ALL meals while in the cities it is usually breakfast only so you are free to visit the restaurant of your choice.
Accommodation
When not camping you can expect good quality hotels (usually around 3-star) with private en-suite facilities in cities, or clean hotels or lodges with a local flavour where facilities are simple yet authentic, clean and comfortable. The latter are usually the best available in very remote.
Transport
We operate a variety of charter vehicles to transfer you as required.
Local Guides
On all our Himalayan treks we use local guides. Each year we hold a first general guides and first aid course in Kathmandu. Our guides must sit these days and then pass the exam at the end of the course. If they do not pass, they do not guide. The course has been run for over a nearly two decades by Dr Jim Duff, who is our medical advisor/consultant and was the expeditions doctor on the successful 1975 British Everest expedition.
Age Restrictions
Minimum 14 for most treks except family graded departures. Participants over 50, with pre-existing medical conditions or on a challenging graded trip must have their medical form completed by a doctor prior to joining our trips.
What to Bring
You do not need to bring any camp gear, sleeping bags, tents or even a duffel bag – we supply all this. You only need to bring adequate clothing and a good set of worn in trekking boots. A complete gear list specific to your trek will be supplied upon booking your tour with us.
