A desert nation the desert has shaped Dubai and the other Emirate states’ history and culture. From humble Bedouin beginnings in the mid-20th century to a powerhouse of Middle Eastern economies today the desert is the unchanging backdrop to the city and nation.

No visit to Dubai would be complete without at least one visit into the arid wilderness. Popular excursions take people from the city to small villages and Bedouin settlements where a glimpse of a life as it was not so very long ago can be seen. Activities include dune-bashing with expert drivers in 4WD vehicles, sand-skiing and camel riding.
