Twenty kilometres from Iquitos, Allpahuayo-Mishana National Reserve holds the greatest number of species of trees and reptiles per hectare.

 There are close to 300 tree species, and 140 species of reptile, as well as 28 endangered species such as the otter, the harpy eagle, the red uakari and the giant armadillo.
