Off the north coast of Mauritius above Cap Malheureux lie five small islands: Coin de Mire (Gunner’s Quoin 4 km north), Île Plate (Flat Island 11 km), Ilot Gabriel (east of Île Plate), Île aux Serpents (Snake Island 24 km), and Île Ronde (Round Island 20 km). The closest islands to the north of the mainland - Coin de Mire, Île Plate and Ilot Gabriel, make a popular day trip cruise destination from the resort of Grand Baie. The waters around the islands are crystal clear and offer ideal conditions for swimming and snorkelling. Île aux Serpents and Île Ronde are important nature reserves - landing is forbidden.
