Called el Barid, the ‘cold one’ in Arabic, Little Petra is a gem for those who can’t get enough of lost cities. The narrow entrance siq leads into a small wadi around 400m in length. Whilst not as extravagant in its carvings this town, once a prosperous suburb of the main site, is a delight to explore with lots of troglodyte-style chambers linked by staircases. At the end of the main valley the walls narrow and the way becomes more difficult; at the end is a viewpoint into a larger wadi beyond which looks great for further exploration, with a local guide.
