Amar Sagar lies on the Lodurva road, 6km from Jaisalmer. Constructed in a natural depression by Maharawal Amar Singh in 1688 the tank or reservoir captures what little rain falls here in Jaisalmer. Far from being a simple reservoir the Amar Sagar has several terraces and the Amar Singh Palace built by Akai Singh in honour of his predecessor. It is decorated with murals and rises to some 5 storeys. On the south of the lake stands an exquisitely carved Jain temple constructed by Himmat Ram Bafna.
