Los Cuchumatanes are a mountain range north of Huehuetenango. The area is fairly remote but is worth a visit to see its beautiful landscape of pine forests, lakes and highland pastures.

A great way to explore this area is on horse back. You can learn to ride at one of the ranches in the area and take part in a ride for just an hour or for those who are more experienced you can join a tour of up to 9 days, complete with camping in the mountains.
