Although Bleaker Island stretches some 25km in length, it is generally no more than a few kilometers across and was once aptly known as Long Island.
An early inhabitant in the first quarter of the 20th century, Arthur Cobb kept fascinating journals about his time on the island, and it is now possible to stay at Cobb’s Cottage and spend some time exploring the island.
Here you can find large breeding colonies of gentoo, rockhopper and magellanic penguins, sealions, white-tufted and silvery grebe, cormorant, silver teal, flying steamer ducks, striated and crested caracara, almost on your doorstep.
