A new museum opened to celebrate the life and work of the artist Mahmoud Said. Said was a judge and artist in his spare time. Relatively unknown outside his own country he was nonetheless one of the most celebrated Egyptian artists of the 20th century. Located in his old home, an Italianate villa in the Loran area of the city, it contains examples of his work which predominantly depict rural Egyptian life and nudes.
