Commonwealth Bay was the base of Mawson’s Australian Antarctic Expedition. Mawson’s Hut is located here, as described as a separate attraction. The region is known as the “Home of the Blizzard” – the katabatic winds reach speeds of up to 200mph, making it one of the windiest places on earth.
