This is the infamous series of islands of which Hoorn Island is the most revered.

The cliff is 424 metres (around 1000 feet) high. Although landings are attempted, the storms for which the area is notorious may preclude this. It is an area rich in history and many stories have been written about those who have tried – often unsuccessfully – to ‘round’ it.

If you are lucky enough to land, there is a climb up to the lighthouse, a small chapel and a sculpture of an albatross with a moving poem dedicated to the many sailors who have been drowned in the area.

It is unforgettable.
