Many people want to enjoy Tuscany at their own pace and a self-drive hire car is a great option. Arrangements are easily made from home with international hire companies who all staff desks at Pisa Airport. On arrival simply collect your keys and you are away.

With the freedom of the road ahead why not build in this little tour? La Lodola is a charming family run countryside B & B in southern Tuscany. Since we have been working with La Lodola for a number of years we were pleasantly surprised to find out that their son, Chef Carlo Porcu, has recently returned “a casa” and opened up an intimate osteria and wine bar. Carlo has a growing wine collection (about 300 labels so far, mainly Tuscan) and the dinner menu changes daily, depending on what Carlo is in the mood to make or what he finds fresh at the local market.

“Wine and Cuisine at La Lodola” takes advantage of Chef Carlo and is perfect for those who do not have a lot of time available yet would still like to escape to the Tuscan countryside to learn more about Tuscan wine and cuisine in an unpretentious family environment.

The trip has been designed keeping in mind the freedom that a car gives and is a perfect addition to a longer Italian sojourn.
