What To Bring
Egypt is a traditional Muslim country and local sensibilities should be observed. Whilst you will see other travellers dressed less appropriately we recommend ladies and girls cover their shoulders and wear a longer, lightweight skirt. Men can wear shorts, but all visitors should dress respectively when visiting villages or entering places of worship. This is especially so when in the settlements of the Western Desert.
Dress in light cottons between March and October, taking much warmer clothing for the evenings/nights between October and March – winters are very cold at night in the desert, so windproof clothing such as a Goretex-style jacket over a fleece is strongly recommended. A 3 season sleeping bag is needed between October and March, with a lightweight sleeping bag / sleeping sheet at other times of the year. A sports bra is recommended for the Valley of the Kings donkey trek and good, comfortable footwear is essential for exploring the ancient sites.
Bring a torch, swimming gear and a towel. Keen snorkellers should consider bringing their own equipment – some sets available to rent or buy locally. Most importantly bring sun-protection – suncream, sunglasses and a hat with a brim.
