What To Bring
- Baggage on this tour is limited to your locker space (length 80cm, width 30cm, height 34 cm) There is also room in the overhead rack for your sleeping bag and a small daypack.
- Camping/sleeping
- A sleeping bag. ( We recommend a 3 – 4 season) If you are travelling during the hot season you may wish to also pack a sleep sheet so you will be comfortable no matter what the weather.
- A travel pillow- pillows are not provided so please bring one along.
- Perhaps abit of extra padding? - while we provide a thermarest style mattress for each client, some travellers find they like the extra comfort of a double layer and choose to bring their own extra mattress. There is plenty of room to store this on the truck's overhead rack.
- A daypack is ideal for any personal items such as your camera, pullover etc. that may be required during the day or on visits to towns.
- Flip flops - ideal for bathroom visits and showering in. A simple plastic bag/waterproof toiletries bag (with a hook you can hang on a nail on the back of a door!) will be useful to keep your clothes dry inside basic camp shower structures.
- A head torch is a really valuable camping item.
- if you prefer another hot drink rather than instant cofee or tea bags you may wish to bring these from home.
- Most of our trips have access to power to recharge batteries for phones and cameras every couple of days. We always recommend that you carry an extra battery for your camera just in case.
- No matter what the season pack a warm fleece just in case.
- Earplugs and sleep masks can be handy
- Alarm clock to get you up for those for early starts
- Baby wipes and liquid hand cleaner for bush camps
- Toilet paper (the truck will have some but if you would like your own soft stuff....

Operator Remarks
Roads in East Africa can be very rough which makes for long, slow travel days. It is however all worth it for the spectacular scenery and novelty of truck travel! Our East Africa trucks are classic overland vehicles with side facing seats and plastic windows which can be folded right up, giving you fantastic, unimpeded veiwing. As our safari vehicles are not airconditioned it can also allow for a bit of travel dust!
Our camp sites are in great locations. Where they are public camp sites the bathroom facitilies can be VERY basic (the toilets may be squat style hole in the ground) and not as clean as Intrepid would hope for. There is never toilet paper provided and shower facilities are often a hose pipe spurting out cold water. Once again, the spectacular serenity and chance to sleep inside National Parks so close to nature makes a little inconvenience all worthwhile and part of the African safari experience.Plus not all campsites are as basic as this discription, it's just to make sure there are no surprises for you.
Lastly, the step up into the safari vehicle, while not overly high can become tiring and you need to judge yourself to be physically fit enough to haul yourself up and down at least 8-10 times a day.
