A short 2 day tour taking you to the highlights of Kangaroo Island. The Island is world-renowned as a place to see native Australian wildlife in its natural habitat. There are several reasons for this, firstly, more than half the island has never been cleared of vegetation, with about one third conserved in National and Conservation Parks. In addition, foxes and rabbits were never introduced onto the island, ensuring the integrity of the uncleared bushland and the presence of abundant wildlife, much of which is uncommon or extinct on mainland Australia.

On your trip, you may get to see the Kangaroo Island Kangaroo, Tammar Wallaby, Short Beaked Echidna, Southern Brown Bandicoot, various species of possum, Cape Barren Geese, dolphins, penguins, whales (seasonal) and the endangered Glossy Black Cockatoo. The island also has flourishing populations of the rare Australian Sea Lion, New Zealand Fur Seal and Australian Fur Seal, which are all native, plus koalas and platypus (though the latter are pretty hard to spot!), which were introduced but still survive there.

Our tour will take you to Flinders Chase National Park, Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch, Koala Sanctuary, Little Sahara, Sokes Bay and Seal Bay.

1	Travel from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island visit the sand dunes and beaches, with a chance to view sealions and koalas before an evening guided nocturnal wildlife spotting walk	Kangaroo Island
	We make our way out of Adelaide through the scenic hills of the Fleurieu Peninsula. When we arrive at Cape Jervis, we board the SeaLink ferry across Backstairs Passage (45 minute trip) to Penneshaw, where we meet your local island guide. It’s not far to our first stop at Pennington Bay, one of the Island’s stunning surf beaches. Get amongst sea lions in their natural habitat on our guided walk at Seal Bay, an experience you won’t forget! Scramble up the white sand hills at Little Sahara and get up close to more wildlife (including koalas) at the Hanson Bay Koala Sanctuary. We arrive at our farm-stay accommodation late in the afternoon. After dinner, get ready to spot kangaroos, wallabies and possums on a guided nocturnal walk.

2	A full days sight seeing on the island including Flinders Chase National Park and Rocky River walks before returning in the evening to Adelaide
	We spend the morning in Flinders Chase National Park. Clamber on the huge granite outcrops of Remarkable Rocks, sculpted by nature over hundreds of years. A colony of New Zealand fur seals resides at Admirals Arch on Cape du Couedic, watch while they frolic in the ocean or lap up the sunshine! We’ll have lunch at Rocky River Headquarters, where there’s time to check out the Information Centre; start point for the Snake Lagoon and Platypus Walks (seasonal choice). After lunch, we travel through the central farming region to the North Coast, visiting Stokes Bay, where a rock runnel leads to an idyllic beach (seasonal). We then return to Penneshaw, with time to purchase dinner (own expense) before returning to the mainland and Adelaide.

Tour starts early morning at 0645, you will therefore need accommodation in Adelaide the previous night.

The itinerary may vary according to seasonal conditions and National Park requirements.

Safaris must be reconfirmed by 4pm the day prior to departure.

Operator Remarks

This tour operates daily between December and March; on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday in April and November and on a Monday, Thursday and Saturday between May and October.

Basic prices are for ferry and dormitory, following are rates for flights and accommodation upgrades:

From 01 April - 31st March 2009: dormitory accommodation with return flight $553; Twin/double farmstay with ferry $417; with flight $585. Single farmstay with ferry $491; with flight $665.

From 01 April 2009 to 31 March 2010: dormitory ferry out and  return flight $575.
