This 2 day tour showcases the diversity of one of the best touring roads in the world. We focus on the wildlife, history and unique stories of region while staying in fantastic Ocean View accommodation and sampling the fine local foods. This 2 day tour allows our small groups to move at a relaxed pace and thoroughly explore the region.
After a personalized hotel pickup we travel to Geelong, stopping at the waterfront and the famous ‘Bollards’ at Eastern Beach. We then travel on to Anglesea Golf Club to see wild Kangaroos roaming around. Morning tea is taken at Lorne overlooking a very popular surf spot. We then wind along the spectacular cliff top road stopping for photos and stories at the most scenic spots. At the Kennett River we get to spot wild Koalas, many sightings are within just a few metres. We then lunch in Apollo Bay; a beachside village with great food and safe beaches for walking or swimming.
After lunch we travel into the ‘Great Otway National Park’ and take a walk at ‘Maits Rest’. This is a 1km rainforest walk through some of the best native forest in Australia. This lush forest dating back 100 million years is highly protected and has amazing examples of Mountain Ash Eucalyptus, Tree Ferns and Myrtle Beech. This is a truly amazing walk that is overlooked by many day tours.
The accommodation tonight is set high on a hill overlooking the Southern Ocean near Apollo Bay. This is the perfect place to relax and unwind before dinner at the Apollo Bay Hotel. After dinner you will have the chance to see glowworms in the local rainforest.
Today starts with a continental breakfast in Apollo Bay. Our first stop is the 12 Apostles. Here you will here of the creation and erosion that has shaped this spectacular coastline over the past 20 million years. Helicopter rides available at own expense. The next stop is Loch Ard Gorge, where in 1878 the ‘Loch Ard’ carrying 54 people was wrecked with only 2 survivors. We tell of Tom and Eva’s struggle while reading their diary notes and handing around original artifacts from the ship.
Lunch is in the popular fishing village of Port Campbell. After lunch we continue our journey to London Bridge, Bay Of Islands Coastal Park, Boat Bay and Peterborough. These are all very scenic limestone features and are just as spectacular as the better known rock formations.
We return to Melbourne via an inland route travelling through Colac and Geelong. We arrive in Melbourne around 6pm.
