Today we arrive at Sharm el Sheikh where we are met and transferred to the Ghazala 1. Embarkation time is from approximately 15:00hrs onwards.

The Ghazala I is a legend amongst divers and was the first luxury live-aboard diving vessel built for Sinai Divers. After a total rebuild in 2004, she cruises the northern Red Sea operating out of Sharm el Sheikh and takes us to world famous dive sites like Ras Mohammed, the Straits of Tiran and the World-War-II wreck Thistlegorm.

Guests aboard the Ghazala I will quickly feel at home enjoying the uncrowded comfort of her 25 meter/80 feet length and 3 deck levels. The beam of 7 meter/22 feet guarantees 12 to 16 passengers spacious living areas and staterooms, all with private facilities.

The freshwater-maker allows generous use of showers and rinsing of cameras and equipment. Around the clock electric power (220V) guarantees fully charged strobes and hot and cold water. For Nitrox production a new membrane system has been installed (available under the Nitrox for Free program).

The centre of social life onboard is the air-conditioned, fully carpeted lounge, with stereo and video system. 3 first class meals each day together with post-dive snacks and coffee and tea are all provided.

Ras Mohammed is situated at the extreme southern part of the Sinai Peninsula. Here, where the Gulf of Aqaba meets with the Gulf of Suez, the ocean floor drops down to depths of more than 1000 metres. An underwater world has developed which is unique in the Red Sea. Due to the topographical position there are strong currents throughout the whole year which are often hard to predict even for experienced divers.

However, it is exactly these currents which provide the reefs in the best possible way with the necessary nutrients. No other dive site in the northern part of the Red Sea offers as much of a variety and density of species as Ras Mohammed.

Dive sites such as Ras Mohammed, Jackson Reef, Blue Hole and many more are legends among divers whilst names like Thistlegorm, Dunraven or Carnatic are the love of every wreck-diver.

Since the opening of the Suez Canal in 1860´s, many ships have passed through the gulf heading Europe to the Orient. Many have also perished, snared by the shallow reefs that loom beneath the surface.

Most of the ships rest at a safe-diving depth, so exploring them poses little danger.

Today we continue our exploration of the Red Sea’s underwater wonders as we head to the Gulf of Aqaba, a 2000 meter deep cut in the bottom of the ocean. At the southern end of the Gulf sits the island of Tiran; here the Gulf narrows and becomes shallower.

With the change of tides, huge quantities of water flow through this bottleneck and cause very strong currents. In the centre of the Straits of Tiran, a ridge pushes up, running from north to south. On its highest elevation four coral reefs (Gordon, Woodhouse, Thomas and Jackson, which are named after British cartographers) have formed.

The currents around these reefs are the cause for the extraordinary diversity of corals and big fish swarms. Among others, you can see barracudas, snappers as well as sharks.

Today our dive safari ends as we disembark and transfer to Sharm el Sheikh Airport
