From Ziguinchor to Kedougou, passing through the Niokolo-Koba Park, reaching then the Bedik Lands: discover the most preserved region of Senegal.
Departing from the Casamance river and arriving until under the Dindifelo’ waterfalls, in the deep tropical forest boarding the Guinea Conakry, you will experience the feeling of passing through multiple countries, such is the diversity of fauna and flora encountered along the way.
This trip operates all year long without a specific departure date.
Arrival in Senegal (Ziguinchor or Cap Skirring), transfer and settling in the Association’ Guesthouse (with European comforts). The transfer service is also available for arrivals and departure in Banjul (The Gambia).
River excursion on pirogue; the immense Casamance River, its islands and its fauna will be part of this inspiring journey… Stop overs in Djilapao and Affiniam, the impluvium houses and visit to the local villages, encounters with the population, return on pirogue at sunset.
Departure to Niokolo: we will drive through several small cities and villages, and will have the chance to spot several plantations (bananas, cotton, etc.). Lunch along the way, the trip continues until our arrival at the Niokolo-Koba National Park. Settle in a bungalow/campement, dinner and night in the resort.
Breakfast and departure on 4x4 vehicles as to enjoy a photo safari on the Natural Reserve tracks. We will pass the Suspension Bridge, and head until the ‘Lion Camp' to observe the wildlife on the board of the Simenti Lagoon. Warthogs, antelopes, buffalos, deers, fawns, baboons and many other species of monkey will cross our paths. Lunch on the spot, with a chance to catch a sight of the Senegalese lions. We will eventually head to Kedougou where the arrival is scheduled in the early evening. Settle in a hotel overlooking the Gambia River, where hippos take their daily baths. Dinner and night in the resort.
Introducing the Bedik Populations: this ethnic group still lives nowadays according to millenary beliefs with deeply rooted Animist traditions. We will leave the car in the Ibel village at the bottom of the valley, and start the ascension to Iwol, the village capital of the Bedik people.
We descend back in the valley for lunch, we will reach the village of Dindifelo on a 4x4 vehicle. Then, a 35/40 minutes walk along the shores of the forest’ torrent: we will reach eventually the waterfalls, a Nature's wonder with water falling from a 70meters cliff. A unique sight: a bath is scheduled in the cool natural pool.
Dinner and night in the Village Lodge Resort, equipped with solar panels. A traditional show will be performed by local artists.
Breakfast and departure in the early morning towards the top of the cliff, to the sources of the waterfalls: an exceptional sight all along the hills and mountains. Visit to the caves through where the exiled used to escape from the ancient Guinean Dictatorial Regime. Return to Kedougou in the afternoon and visit of the market. Dinner and night in the hotel.
Wake up before dawn, breakfast and departure to Ziguinchor; A day of voyaging, with stops along the villages encountered along the way. Arrival in the late afternoon, very deserved relax and dinner.
Morning dedicated to eventual last purchases of souvenirs and art objects. According to the departure time, transfer for the return flight.
Full board, all meals, all excursions, visits and tours scheduled in the itinerary, all of the shows and events, guides and entrance fees, transfer from and to airport (Ziguinchor/Cap Skirring). 20% of the cost of this trip is invested directly into a Community-Based Development Projects Fund.
International air fare to and from Ziguinchor, Cap Skirring or Banjul, airport taxes and flight insurances. Transfer to/from Banjul (The Gambia). Drinks and personal purchases as souvenirs and art objects. All not specified as included.
