Met at 08:30 in your Dahab hotel your adventure starts as you depart and head towards the desert’s interior! After some 70km vehicles drive off-road for 15 minutes to reach the entrance of the Hummidatt Canyon, also called the Narrow Canyon. It is a very secret and pristine place and as you might expect is so called as its facing walls sometimes almost join each other. This canyon is perfect for children as the trek in on foot to explore is only 45 minutes, whilst the narrow nature of its winding path means both kids and adults have lots of fun. The trek brings an incredible feeling of adventure and closeness with nature. Next your guide will lead you to admire one of the Rock of Inscriptions in Sinai. Some of this ancient graffiti dates back the Nabataean time, 2000 years ago. Pilgrims used to carve messages on the stones of Sinai for other desert travellers. This first introduction to the large range of canyons in South Sinai is great fun as you have to follow the narrowest winding path along the sandstone, sculpted by centuries of erosion. Another drive through the surrounding, pastel-coloured wadis and you reach the lush oasis of Ein Hudra. Hudra is surrounded by a range of colourful sandstone mountains, soft sand and date palms. The local Bedouin of the area cultivate the land, growing a range of plants and herbs, palm dates, and grazing goats, as they have done for hundreds of years before. The oasis is a natural water source supplying the surrounding land with fertile life-giving soils. The oasis gives you an insight into the Bedouin way of life by visiting their camp. After a delicious lunch served on the comfortable carpets of the Arisha, and a cup of traditional shay or tea, shared with the local families you’ll set off by 4WD in the direction of your camp at Mt Matamir. En route you will be able to admire the famous Tombs of Nawamis that date back to the Bronze Age, 5500 years ago. Believed to have been built for the protection against a plague of mosquito (according to biblical legend) they are in fact tombs that functioned at the end of the Timna period. These are the world’s oldest standing buildings with their own roofs intact and all face west with the sunset, symbolizing the end of the sun with the end of life. Tonight is the night when you’ll feel like real desert dwellers. The camp is set up in the heart of Sinai, protected from the wind by the rocks of Matamir on the softest white sand. You will enjoy another evening under the stars, listening the songs and tales of the Bedouins. |

Mountain After breakfast the warm colours of the morning invite you to climb to the top of the mountain and admire an outstanding panoramic view of the surrounding desert. The climb to the summit takes 45 minutes and is relatively easy, especially with the help of your experienced desert guide. Next your driver heads towards El Barqa, the ‘Lawrence of Arabia Desert’ where the desert floor is sprinkled with crystallized rock, desert herbs and the footprints of the local wildlife. The surrounding sculpted mountains of limestone have been created through thousands of years of wind erosion and also contain many hidden caves. You arrive at the Frozen Dinosaur Mountain shaped like a pre-historic dinosaur due to wind erosion. You’ll enjoy another delicious, freshly prepared lunch, then head towards the spectacular Dunes of Hadouddah and Haddoudeh, largest and highest dunes in the Sinai. Sunset approaching, it will be time to head back to Dahab, arriving around 17:00. |
