Accommodation
We generally use the Hilton hotel in Addis Ababa and the Ghion Government chain of hotels around the country. This is the best accommodation available, with en-suite facilities and all have the best locations in town. However, these would only amount to 2/3 star hotels in Europe.
On the Timkat tour we also use the new Simien Lodge, which is very nice, but we must make clear that over the Timkat period, particularly in Gondar, it is very hard to reserve specific hotels and if we cannot therefore use the Ghion chain we will use the next best available… which has to be said is sometimes pretty ropey!
Transport
All our trips in Ethiopia use planes, coasters and smart 4x4 land cruisers that we feel are a much more comfortable, convenient and interesting way to see the countryside.

Operator Remarks
The weather in Ethiopia, at least in terms of the heat, is fairly consistent all year round. The only real change is in rainfall. And as all our trips go between the end of the long rains (September) and the beginning of the short ones (April) this should not be a problem. During the day the temperature hovers around the mid 20’s, falling to an overnight low of 6/8 degrees. However, in the Simien Mountains, especially in January, it can get cold and therefore we suggest bringing a good jacket (ski type or anorak) and a pair of thermals to sleep in.
We make a point of visiting the indigenous populations of each country, in order to give a true reflection of the place; please treat the local people and their customs with respect. This should include dressing correctly, particularly while visiting churches and other culturally important sites and being sensitive when taking photos.
