Rift Valley Lakes & Maasai Mara
We begin among the spectacular scenery of Lake Naivasha, famed for its birdlife from fish eagles to kingfishers as well as the antelope and hippo that frequent the shoreline. There's also the chance to explore Crescent Island Game Sanctuary before we head west to Kenya's finest wildlife park, the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Here we spend two full days among its abundant game, including elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo and rhino. The forested banks of the Mara and Talek rivers are an excellent place to view hippos, crocs and waterfowl.
Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater
Our journey continues into Tanzania and the shores of Lake Victoria. From Speke Bay we enter the remote Western Corridor of the Serengeti. Here we're soon among the vast herds of zebra, wildebeest and Grant's gazelle that inhabit the huge grasslands. Here we enjoy further game drives and you may even wish to make a balloon trip over the plains at dawn for a truly unforgettable experience. Next we reach the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest intact caldera. Rhino, lion and elephant are the big attraction here, whilst flamingo occupy pride of place on the shallow soda lake.
Tribes of Lake Eyasi & Amboseli
From the crater we continue to Karatu, close to the Rift Valley escarpment. From here there's the opportunity to visit the shores of Lake Eyasi, where we set out on foot to locate Hadzabi bushmen hunter/gatherers and the Datoka tribe. We finally complete our journey returning to Kenya and exploring Amboseli National Park. With the dominant backdrop views of snow-capped Kilimanjaro to guide our way, we make a final game drive in search of the parks' famous elephant herds.
