On arrival you will be collected by your own driver and transferred to the Malpas Hotel, a journey of around 50 minutes. After checking in enjoy dinner.

We start the day with an introductory briefing giving information about the country, history and indeed everything that you may need to know to get your trip of to a flying start. 

After the welcome meeting we set out for a visit to Kyrenia Castle, with its famous Shipwreck Museum, containing one of the oldest trading ships ever found. We enjoy lunch at one of the little harbour-side restaurants and then walk through the old town, getting a feel for its history.

After our visit we head to Bellapais Monastery, set in the hills above Kyrenia. Here you will visit the evocative ruins and have an opportunity to wander streets where Lawrence Durrell gained inspiration for his book, ‘Bitter Lemons’.

Next we head to St Hilarion’s Castle – the perfect way to end the days as you admire the views from the ramparts of this amazing castle.

Our walk will be through the famous and dramatic Besparmak or Five Fingers Mountains, at around 700 m above sea level. The walk will be 17 km long, and is an easy to moderate standard. 

These mountains are a dividing range separating the north coast from the Mesaoria Plain to the south and they provide the walker with stunning views. In spring a plethora of flowers can be enjoyed, but a walk here is a pleasure at any time of the year. Our walk reveals the best of the mountains and the day is broken with a delicious picnic lunch under the pine trees.

Tonight we have booked a table at one of our favourite local restaurants on your behalf. You will be collected by your driver for the short journey to Kyrenia. After your meal and perhaps a walk around the harbour you will be transferred back to the hotel - simply call your driver and ask him to collect you.

Today we head east along the coastal road enjoying the occasional stop to admire the view or maybe take a coffee break at a local café as we head for Incirli Cave. Incirli Cave is one of the few caves to be found in North Cyprus, and is about 150m long. The cave is at Çınarlı village where there is also a famous ‘wish tree’ as well. We can enter the cave so bring a torch!

After our visit we head to Kantara Castle, where Richard The Lionheart captured and imprisoned the last King of Cyprus. We enjoy an 8km walk after our picnic lunch in the mountains, under the pine trees.

Lastly we continue east to Buyukkonuk, a village in the Karpas region. Here we stay with Lois and Ismail who have a small guesthouse, a pilot for developing eco-tourism in village-Cyprus. Here you can see life in a traditional Cypriot village, enjoy local hellim cheese and olive bread, try your hand at milking goats, walk with shepherds behind their flocks or take a walk through bright blooming fields during the wild flower season.

A long day today as we head into the Karpas a little to experience something of its grandeur and remoteness. We may see the famous wild donkeys before we turn south to Famagusta and Salamis.

Salamis was the biggest city of the kingdom of Cyprus for some 18 centuries, from the 11th century BC until the 7th century AD. The ruins of this ancient city with its vast marble columns surrounding the gymnasium, pool and baths, theatre, Temple of Zeus, and the beautiful sun mosaics of St. Paul will give an experience of what life must have been like in those times.

On our way back to Kyrenia we pause at the Monastery of St. Barnabas, its archaeological museum and 5th century chapel.
